From April 26, 2024, to January 5, 2025, the Palais Galliera presents Fashion in Motion #2, an enthralling exhibition that explores the evolution of fashion from the 18th century to today, with a focus on the body in motion.
This exhibition features over 250 previously unseen pieces, showcasing how clothing has adapted to physical and sporting activities through the centuries. Visitors will encounter outfits for horseback riding, tennis, golf, cycling, and rare swimwear that reflect the democratization of sports in the late 19th century. The exhibition highlights the increasing specialization of sportswear and its integration into everyday wardrobes, mirroring societal transformations and evolving beauty standards, such as attitudes toward tanning.
The Palais Galliera has curated a unique collection with loans from prestigious institutions such as the Musée National du Sport, the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation, and the Bibliothèque Forney. This exhibition is part of the Olympic Cultural Program, celebrating the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
